Prompt six-Ana

Owen Mundy’s "I Know Where Your Cat Lives" addresses the issue of online privacy, and consent in the digital age. He uses photos of cats shared online by people to show how personal data is accessible very easily and can be used in many ways. By putting the locations of people's cats in a map the artist highlights the unsettling fact of how easy private information can be gathered from what seem innocent online interactions. The web invites viewers to reflect their habit of sharing personal images and the risks of living in a online connected society where data can be used without consent. I think Mundy’s work may be seen as playful but it is still provoking reflection using something cute like cat photos and forcing the audience to see the reality of digital use and the invasion of their privacy, making them uncomfortable and aware of how vulnerable we are to technology. The fact that the project uses the internet itself as the medium to show the message adds to the subject, reinforcing the idea. My experience going though this site was a journey, at first I only focused on the cute pictures and was trying to find more and more, then I reflected about how I would feel if a picture of my cat was shown on it without my consent and finally I realized how easy it would be for people online to find personal information about me.
